Unlike its name would suggest, The Somers Town Coffee House  is less of a coffee spot and more of an old British boozer with a twist…

You’ll find this gem of a pub tucked away on Chalton Street, a stone’s throw from Euston station; think rugged wooden tables, comfy armchairs and a plethora of pints to pick from. Have yourself a good ol’ snoop around the bookcase in the back though and you might just unearth a little hidden secret. Yep, a uniquely-designed, themed dining space – known as Ssshh Supper Club – there are four different rooms, each with its own quirky interior (one has grass!).

But that’s not all. Venture downstairs and you’ll find Cosy Kettle, the speakeasy cocktail club where tasty expertly-mixed tipples are served into the the early hours of the morning…long after the main pub has closed!

All of this would mean nothing if The Somers Town Coffee House didn’t deliver on food and drink – fortunately, it does! The pub boasts a whopping 12 craft ales alongside a stunning selection of lagers, wines, spirits, soft drinks and hot drinks. The grub is equally impressive with an all-day menu of scrumptious British classics and yummy desserts.

Finally, as if all of this wasn’t enough (you’re demanding, you!) this Central London watering hole also sports a sun-blushed hidden garden.

What was that? You’ve found Heaven? We thought so.

What do you get when you combine 100 different types of tea with a crackin’ boozer? AnswerThe Stoke Newington Tea House.

Three floors, three very different experiences. As you enter the quirky pub, you’ll notice something about the bar – there isn’t one. You’ll also be greeted by a wall of tea, sourced from across the globe – white, black, green, yellow, assam, darjeeling, oolong, pure ayurvedic, flowering…the list goes on.

But don’t be fooled! This is still very much a pub. The state-of-the-art beer wall, craft beer fridge and eight rotating ales are a testament to that fact, as is the list of tea-infused cocktails (or as the pub calls them – ‘cock-teas’).

Add to this a killer menu of British grub from brekkie to Sunday roasts and you’ll realise, there’s nothing ordinary about The Stoke Newington Tea House

Hold on, there’s more, so much more. How about a secret hideaway? Escape the hustle and bustle of the Big Smoke and sneak downstairs into the cellar  – known as Bouverie Road Wine and Cheese BarIf you hadn’t already guessed it, there’s wine, cheese and more wine. There, that’s it…oh, wait. There’s also an upstairs! Home to The London School of Tea, here you can book classes to learn how to make the PERFECT cuppa. It’s a British tradition, after all.

Ah, the countryside. Is there anything better?

Nestling on the bank of the Great Stour River is the Grove Ferry Pub. Here, you can ignore the rest of the world and just relax – whatever the season, there’s so much to explore you’re bound to forget your worries.

Start by saying hi to the house animals; Sam, Bilbo and Pickle the pig or Pedro the golden pheasant – you can even join in on the morning routine of collecting fresh eggs from the ‘chicks’. There’s a HUUUUUUUGE garden where they regularly soak up the sun, we suggest you join in!

Inside is a haven of food and drink; the grub is fresh, locally sourced and delicious – perfected British classics with a quirky twist or two. The Sunday roast is a speciality, so make sure you ring up and book before you pop in or you might miss out! And the drink? Well, how does lavender-infused cocktails (Grove Ferry used to be a lavender farm!), a cask ale room and delicious vino sound?

The pub is the epitome of cosy country style and there’s plenty more: a boathouse (wedding parties, birthdays, anniversaries or just a big ‘ole bash…if these walls could speak!), a terrace overlooking the river, an outside bar, a BnB with six boutique bedrooms upstairs, fireplaces, cosy sofas, lots of dining space and a friendly team. If you’re staying for the weekend, you can also go kayaking, hiking on the Nature Reserve across the road or visit the nearby villages.

Like we said, is there anything better than the countryside? Ssssh, don’t tell the city folk, they’ll all come running (it’s just an hour from King’s Cross!).

Fondly nicknamed The Vic by locals, this kooky, quirky and marvellous pub offers everything you could want, and then some.

Let’s start with the normal stuff; there’s a bar (!) filled with brilliant craft, cask ales and international wines, as well as a hearty blend of mouth-watering cocktails for those days when you just want something a bit different. And the food? You won’t be disappointed. Imagine if you could put together everything you love about British food on one menu – well, The Vic has done just that and added a few little twists.

The fun doesn’t stop there. The Vic, she’s a beautiful lady and somewhat like Mona Lisa, the lady has her secrets. Upstairs you’ll find three uniquely themed dining rooms and when we say unique, we mean it – check out the kitchen room, where you’ll be having dinner as you watch the chefs work in the real kitchen. They’re chatty, so do say hi!

Explore the lady’s colourful back garden (tongue-in-cheek over here!), there’s plenty of space to lap up the sunshine in summer including Charlie’s Caravan – an actual caravan – and two roof-covered huts where you can lie down and contemplate life whilst you sip your drink of choice.

There’s also a speakeasy bar in the basement for those who fancy hankering back a little more privately.

Welcome to The Vic. She’s a real gem, this lady.
